About

Purpose of Breathe Deeply and Relax

The purpose of Breathe Deeply and Relax begins with my philosophy of nursing that is based on an art and a science and has as its primary purpose the providing of services that strengthen individuals and enable them to achieve the wholeness (holism) within them.

Practicing holistic nursing requires me to integrate self-care in my life leading to a greater awareness of the interconnectedness of all individuals thereby helping to facilitate health and healing.

Holism means whole on all levels including physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual.  I want to be as transparent as possible, many of my beliefs about holistic nursing care is in direct accordance with several nursing resources, research, and my own personal experiences.

As I understand it, concepts of holistic nursing include:

  • A sensitive balance between the art and science of nursing
  • Intuitive and analytical skills of nursing
  • The ability and interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit.

About Me

First, a little about me personally.

  1. I love gardening, anything.
  2. I enjoy our chickens, they never fail to entertain as well as provide us with beautiful, delicious eggs (as well as helping to keep the bugs out of the garden).
  3. I love guinea fowl as well, they are our outside “guard dogs” (in addition to our actual dogs who are fierce alerters to anything that moves in our yard, including the leaves on the trees).  Guineas are not too pretty, but actually have gone full circle to be considered beautiful when you really look at them.  They are courageous to a fault of not knowing how vulnerable they really are.
  4. I’m learning how to best preserve foods, such as canning and drying.  I already freeze a lot for smoothies and baking.
  5. I love to bake!
  6. I love my family! (not sure why I did not list first), they are my rock in life and are always first.
  7. I have and am currently battling an illness.  That is why this site is so important to me.  I find self-healing as a by product of helping others.
  8. As a nurse, I always say a little prayer before work to ask God to use me as His vessel to do His work He puts in front of me, with compassion and tolerance for all, with health, wellness, and healing.

About Me Professionally

Let me tell you a little about myself and Breathe Deeply and Relax.  I have been a licensed registered nurse for over 36 years and have practiced holistic nursing for most of that time. I am a health and wellness coach.

I have worked in various areas of nursing that have allowed me to use these skills including the intensive care unit, home health care, emergency room, and behavioral health care.

I also had the privilege of working in nursing education where I was able to introduce current research data results, techniques and personal experiences to my students, so they may determine if this type of nursing care is something they want to use in their careers.

I have also assisted and guided fellow health care workers on their personal journeys of health, wellness, and healing.  I have a MSN in Nursing Education.

As well, I too have benefited personally from every interaction with clients.  This interaction, along with active participation in self-care, has brought peace to my own health, wellness, and healing of my disease processes.

Evolving always, my goal as a nurse has been to incorporate mind-oriented therapies in care to clients in order to help manage physiologic as well as the psychological and spiritual aspects of illness.

Combined with traditional medical therapy and treatment, the goal is to activate inner healing and to enhance the effects of drugs, surgery, and technologic therapies.

I am not a licensed therapist, I am a licensed registered nurse (RN, BSN, MSN) teaching the basics of what therapies are available to us.

How is this purpose achieved?

Using complementary alternative therapies (CAT) such as relaxation, imagery, simple biofeedback, and self-hypnosis cues as interventions that focus on body-mind-spirit integration, can help evoke healing among individuals and self.

Complementary therapies are just that, partnering with medical, professional, and community therapies to bring about best outcomes. CATs are not intended as a replacement for medical or professional advice or treatments.

Beliefs in Mind-Body approaches focus on:

  • Personal attitudes and lifestyle
  • Assuming personal responsibility
  • Proactive Self-Motivation

I do believe we must become involved in our own self-care as best we can, at what ever level we are able to achieve.  For more information about complimentary health approaches, the National Center for Complimentary and Integrative Health can help.

My understanding of healing is a process of bringing parts of one’s self together at a deep level of inner knowledge, resulting in an integrated balanced whole with each part having equal importance and value.  I embrace the spirituality aspect that includes integration of my values, meaning, and purpose in life.

This involves my turning inward to human traits such as honesty, love, caring, wisdom, imagination, and compassion.  I believe in the existence of a higher power and a flowing balance that allows for and creates healing of body-mind-spirit on our own individual paths in life.

One of my favorite quotes comes from my daughter, “I believe our minds can do powerful things.”  I tend to believe the human spirit can sometimes make the difference between life and death as well as wellness and illness and quality of life. I believe in fostering resilience and adaptability as well.

To assist in achieving a healing awareness, we can learn to discipline ourselves to be present in the moment.  This can be achieved by learning simple mind-oriented techniques and therapies as previously listed.

However, we must understand that a self-awareness that can lead to successful outcomes requires us to practice these techniques as our authentic self, and practice often.

Our purpose is to guide others in learning new health behaviors and discover insights about ways to cope more effectively with daily living.  To assist, there needs to be a readiness, or intention, to allow the natural universal life forces to flow to be able to experience inner calm and peace and be present in the moment.

Relaxation, specific breathing, music, and or meditation are a few methods to help us be present.  This is our goal, to guide by teaching about these various methods so intention, presence, and insights can be better facilitated in order to achieve goals.

Scripts and information provided on this site are not intended to replace a nursing or medical assessment that would be provided face to face, so please for this type of care, please consult a healthcare provider near you.
